A Rough Guide To Georgeham And Surrounding Attractions |
|
Rock Home cottage is situated in Georgeham, North Devon, and is two miles from Croyde. Georgeham is a small village situated two miles inland from Croyde, and avoids noise and crowds whilst having easy access to the world-renowned surfing beaches at Croyde, Saunton Sands, Putsborough and Woolacombe, as well as the North Devon Coastal Path, and several nature reserves such as Braunton Burrows, the country's first Unesco biosphere reserve. (below: Putsborough & Woolacombe beaches). Henry Williamson, author of "Tarka the Otter" lived in Georgeham and the truly delightful 'Tarka Trail', on the path of the old railway, can be walked or cycled all the way to Torrington, by way of Barnstaple and Instow. Also within reach are Exmoor, Dartmoor, Lynmouth and Lynton, Lundy Island, Clovelly and the Eden project.
The cottage is close to the Rock Inn, a local Inn famous for its excellent food, so some, if not all, of your evenings can be free from self-catering. It is also a few minutes walk away from the local post office and village shop and another Inn, the Lower House, which has an increasing reputation for fine food. The village bus-stop, for buses to Ilfracombe and Barnstaple, is situated close to the shop, so the car can be left behind for some journeys. |
